    Thanks Reg

    Since this forum is still in beta testing I thought I would reply to mention that images can be inserted in to a message.
    Instead of just entering the web address of an image as you did you could have clicked on the "Insert Image" icon in the message editor, then choose "From URL" and enter the URL of the image just like you did in the message you posted.

    Doing so should result in something like this with a clickable image in your message;

    IMG_0004.jpg

    Hmmm, even though my reply got posted I did get a "database error" when I clicked to send the reply. That gives me something to look in to.

    Thanks John. Yes it dropped off line again as I was typing also and I had to go back and do the last 15% again. I am most grateful that you have extended the edit period. I thought there might be a way of inserting the image but this is the first time I've been successful with using Dropbox so that was very pleasing. I'll remember that for next time. I haven't tried yet but I hope that inserted image can be full-screened???? Detail is important.

    Perhaps I should point out that the third and fourth harmonics in that diagram are 15 dB below the chosen formant, while still higher formants are 35dB down. In each case I am taking the peak magnitude of the second harmonic as the reference. Recall that 15dB down is lower than NORMAL +72 dBA conversation level, so 35dB down at about +50dBA is hardly worth considering. The calibration marks are 10dB steps with zero at the base-line and +100 dB at the top. Reg.

    Spurred by John Link's fervent desire for an Apple version of this software, I'd like to present a few ideas for consideration.

    As a dedicated device it becomes immediately obvious how futile it would be to apply general spectrum analysis to this program because it would create such difficulty that few would dream of using it. VoceVista is a specialized tool and has been tailored to present an efficient representation by minimizing the flexibility of the program.

    What it does not have is reasonable weighting of certain parts of the presentation to provide even greater simplicity. Principally the suppressing of displayed data which is beyond the area of interest and the addition of simple identifying information.

    Even as it stands I believe it has minimum market penetration due to the failure to clean up some of this detail and present the remainder as an attractive package. But this is in the PC arena where far the most potential users reside. Given the numbers, an Apple presentation would have to be vastly more effective and unreasonably more expensive to service the few extra potential users, while locking out the masses.

    Far better to concentrate on VoceVista and remedy its short-comings. Reg.
